Are you one of those people who keeps meaning to get the garage in order to free up some space to park a car? Organizing the garage may seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming.Start by going through your garage and figuring out what you are keeping, what you are giving away, and what you are throwing out. Get rid of anything you really don’t need. Then organize by separating things into groups. The pruning shears should not be mixed in with the tennis rackets and the soccer balls. Categorize these groups by how you use them and how often you use them. For example, keep all your gardening items in one spot and your sports equipment in another.
Consider separating items into the following groups:
- Gardening equipment
- Sporting goods
- Tools
- Seasonal items
Then use these tips to make the most of your garage space:
- Wall shelving will maximize all the available space.
- Hang gardening tools on racks and hooks to keep them out of the way.
- A pegboard is also great for hanging tools.
- Cabinets provide a clean, consistent look while keeping clutter hidden and in order.
- A locked storage cabinet will keep dangerous items out of easy reach.
- Bins offer convenient storage for seasonal items. You can even color-code the bins for added organization.
- Ceiling shelving is also ideal for storing seasonal items.
- Harder-to-stow items, like sports equipment, can be tossed in baskets.
- Store smaller items in jars to keep them organized.
