greenpeopleplanet Still haven’t had the motivation to switch to green living? Don’t want to spend the money on energy-efficient home improvements? Find it hard to see the need for making eco-friendly alterations to your lifestyle?

It’s 2010. Now is a great time to find out what the green movement is all about and why it’s so important. There are even financial incentives in it for you! To start, read “Going Green Makes a Big Difference” that fully explains the benefits that green living has on the world.

You’ll also want to check out The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 , which has been extended, expanded and simplified for homeowners who make energy-efficient improvements to their homes. The law now extends through 2010, the tax credit increased to 30 percent of the cost of each qualified energy-efficient improvement, and the total available tax credit has increased from $500 to $1,500! Now you can improve your home, increase its value, save money on a monthly basis and receive a tax credit for doing so!

This proves that plenty of incentives are available to make the change to green living! Make it your New Year’s resolution to make a difference in the world. Plus, when it’s time for you to sell your home in the future, it’ll raise its value and increase its popularity with potential homebuyers.

To get you started, read these past blog articles that offer helpful advice for kick-starting an eco-friendly lifestyle. Then, stay tuned for all of our up-to-date green living blogs yet to come!

When you’re looking to make your home more eco-friendly, the kitchen is the best place to start. Why? According to the U.S. Department of Energy, kitchens account for 41.5 percent of the energy consumption in a home!

In keeping with that idea, here are a handful of green products that can help improve your kitchen:

  • Biodegradable Trash Bags: Created by Perf Go Green, these kitchen trash bags can be used and thrown away; they’ll be totally broken down within two years. Made of recycled plastics, they are fully biodegradable, making them a smart, green solution for disposing of your kitchen garbage.
  • Energy-Star Appliances: Appliances with the Energy Star rating are said to offer the best performance with the benefit of energy savings.
  • New countertops or cabinetry: Today’s building industry offers a variety of eco-friendly materials with which to outfit your kitchen, from concrete to formaldehyde-free to EnviroSLAB. If you’re planning to update your kitchen anyway, why not do it with green products?

For even more eco-friendly kitchen improvements, check out this Buy Owner Blog post from last fall: Green Living: Kitchen.
