Reevaluating tasks and goals is normal with the start of a new year, especially with real estate, where the future always seems questionable. Should you wait to sell your home, in case the market improves? Is now a good time to buy?
The future of 2010 remains unknown. The market could improve, or according to many economists, it could get worse. But one thing’s for sure: where waiting gives you no control, being proactive gives you all of it. That is why, whether you’re buying or selling, now is the time to do something.
SELL NOW
The truth is, you might obtain more of a profit now than later.
Many people use the excuse that no one buys a house in the winter and that they’d have more success waiting until the weather warms up. However, in the winter, there are numerous perks that could work to your advantage!
- Less competition.
- Ready buyers. Homebuyers will always be on the lookout for a new home, such as newlyweds, growing families, new graduates or job transfers.
- Looking past the weather. Though homebuyers are looking at your home in drab weather conditions, they know that the home’s visual appeal will improve along with the weather!
To use winter to your prime advantage, improve your home’s winter appeal, such as with energy-efficient insulation, a programmable thermostat or a heated garage. Create a cozy winter scene with a crackling fire in the fireplace, a batch of freshly baked cookies or a snowman in the yard. Turn on all the lights to make the home appear bright and cheerful. Display pictures of the house during numerous seasons, so that potential homebuyers can see for themselves just how beautiful the fall color or spring blossoms are!
BUY NOW
No one can predict the future. Still, there’s no time like the present to fulfill your dreams. Right now, the first-time homebuyer tax credit has been extended to at least the spring. A tax credit is also available for current homeowners. Houses are still being offered for exceptionally good deals for homebuyers, and the availability and options are plentiful. So no matter what happens to the real estate industry in the future, why wait?
